In north beach California the beat goes on, encapsulated in the bricks and mortar of the beat museum, its foundations are laid with the beat way of thinking and their philosophies and decorated with snap shots of their lives, each picture telling a thousand stories.
It acts as a nostalgic shrine to those iconic beat writers, musicians and artists driven by their passions, Allen Ginsberg, Neal Cassidy; jack Kerouac... and many others.
The beat museum was opened by Jerry Cimino who had spent a wealth of years collecting beat memorabilia, including his collection of photos and first editions.
The beat museum however is not only just a dusty storage space of relics from a dead era, it acts as a hot house of new talent and a vibrant poetry scene playing host to many events and readings from established and up and coming poets following in the footsteps of these enlightened wordsmiths.
The museum also offers walking tours of north beach showing off the landmarks where the beats lived, drank, wrote and loved, helping you to create a personal relationship with them and to help you step inside their minds and see the world as they saw it.
The beat museum also offers a wide range of beat literature, available to purchase and enrich your own collection.
